Cory Winner and the team are looking to make a statement in 2017 after the strong showing they had in 2016.
Rounds 2-3 of the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series SoCal hit Glen Helen Raceway on March 11-12. The competition was high with 14 trucks showing up to the first race. Cory Winner knew he had to be on the top of his game to land on a podium spot. Qualifying on Saturday was tight, with Cory Winner laying down 3rd fastest. With an inversion of 6, he would start on the second row. Off the start, Cory made a move past Keatts to make it into 2nd place. By the halfway yellow, Cory had made it around Mason Cullen and into the lead. Focusing on hitting his marks and making no mistakes, he held onto the lead until the end and won the first round of racing, along with setting the fastest lap.
The track was prime for another round of racing on Sunday. Cory in his #67 Fabtech Prolite set down the 2nd fastest lap behind Christopher Polvoorde. Starting on the 3rd row, Cory had some work to do. Right off the start, Cory drag raced Cole Keatts off turn 2 and got by Jimmy Weitzel in turn 3. Now settled in the 2nd spot, Cory set his sights on the 1st place spot. Having laid down some fast laps and gaining ground, Cory finally got around Hailie Deegan and started to create a gap. Christopher Polvoorde started battling it out and it came down to the last lap. With Polvoorde pushing hard, Cory knew he had to be perfect. The General Tire Grabber X3’s shot Cory out of the turns and helped keep the distance between the two racers. When the checkered flag waved, it was Cory Winner who crossed the line first.
After a great weekend of racing, the team looks forward to the opening rounds of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series in Arizona.
