CHINO, CA – Winner Motorsports Group hit Lake Elsinore for the final round of the 2016 SoCal Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Racing season. Cory Winner in the #67 Fabtech Prolite was looking to continue his podium streak, which was now at 6 races in a row, and cap the season off with a win.
Track conditions were near perfect for qualifying Saturday morning. Cory headed out once again, looking to lay down the fastest time in yet another competitive field. At lap 2, Cory laid down the fastest time and held it until the last lap where he was knocked down to 3rd place by just a few tenths. With the inversion set at 4, Cory would start on the front row for the final race of the season.
The green flag waved and Cory quickly capitalized on his starting position, taking the lead into turn 1. Cory and DeBerti drag raced all the way to turn 3 where DeBerti was able to get around. The General Tire Grabbers on the #67 Fabtech Prolite kept him within striking distance, being only a half a car length back from the lead all the way to the mandatory caution. Knowing he had pressure from Polvoorde behind him in the 3rd spot, Cory kept his composure and focused on applying pressure to take back the 1st place spot. Trying to close the gap back up on DeBerti after the caution, Cory laid down smooth and consistent laps and slowly gained some ground. He ran the fastest lap of the race on lap 10 and was again pressuring for the lead. Having to defend the 2nd place spot from Polvoorde though, the race would eventually run out of laps and end with Cory finishing in a respectable 2nd place, grabbing his second fastest lap of the season and his 7th podium if the 8 race season. After the race, Cory said, “Every race this year we have picked up speed and the crew has given me a we consistent truck. I was feeling really comfortable coming into this race and we definitely had some chances to win it but with the mistake free racing from the competition, it made it a little more difficult. The truck was flying and I’m happy to have been able to grab another podium and a 2nd place finish in the Fabtech Prolite Challenge Championship!”
